Many years later, in 2015, hearing that people in California had something called “evenings” and “weekends”, I decided to move cross-country in search of a better way of living. At first, free time was great. I traveled and explored California. But I soon became restless and found myself toying with the idea of finally getting a dog. One day, I accidentally came across the silliest looking Boston terrier puppy named Pokey. She was 6 weeks old, and I was told she would be available for adoption in 2 weeks. Pokey was everything a Boston terrier should be - gooby goober, super silly, eyes way too big for her head, tiny floppy puppy ears and simply oozing with personality.
Visions of evenings spent cuddling on the couch danced in my head as she said “YES! I’ll take her!” Two weeks weeks later, I went to go pick her up. She was only four pounds and fit on my hand. I very quickly learned that Pokey had only two speeds: meth addict (zoom zoom) and comatose.
And even though we have not spent a single evening cuddling on the couch, but regardless, getting this little dog has still been one of the greatest adventures of my life so far.
This website is dedicated to my beautiful dog and to memorialize all our adventures and the fun we have together.
Meet Pokey
Pokey is a ball obsessed fun loving cartoon boston terrier living her very best life in the foggy city of San Francisco. Pokey creates mischief and mayhem wherever she goes but gets away with everything through her masterful use of sad-eye manipulation, which Momma is incapable of resisting. Pokey is the queen of facial expressions - Momma is forever entertained by Pokey's gooby face, her judgmental expressions, her exasperated sighs, her omnipresent hopeful "throw the ball?" expression.
If Pokey had a life motto, it would be "Bad girls have more fun", and Momma is just along for the ride.
Meet Momma
Hi - I'm Momma (also knowns as: full time ball-thrower, hand-feeder, edge-of-the-bed sleeper, constant fart-breather and beck-and-call slave). I work at a Private Equity Fund in San Francisco CA and use photography as an escape from my otherwise serious job. Even though Pokey isn't a fan of photos, she has been posing for pics since day one and is a pro at staying still for the camera.
Momma's name is Akansha, which means "a wish or a desire" in Sanskrit. It's ironic because all Momma has ever wished for is cuddles from her Pokey... something she unfortunately rarely gets (but never gives up hope!)
