What is a perfect Boston Terrier?
According to the breed standard, the Boston Terrier is a smooth coated, shortheaded, compactly built, short-tailed dog, brindle, seal or black in color and evenly marked with white. The head is in proportion to the size of the dog and the expression indicates a high degree of intelligence.
The body is rather short and well knit, the limbs strong and neatly turned, the tail is short and no feature is so prominent that the dog appears badly proportioned.
Is Pokey a perfect Boston Terrier?
So.. if you go by the breed standard for Boston Terriers, I don’t think Pokey meets the criteria for a perfect Boston Terrier.
Apparently her tummy is undesirable and needs to curve in more, but i think her tummy is extremely desirable! No one loves a skinny bish anyways!
A gay tail
I’m not exactly sure what a gay tail is (I don’t think it means it likes other female tails), but I think maybe Pokey’s tail is gay based on the illustrative example? But, Pokey’s gay tail wags whenever she sees me, sending my heart bursting with joy, so in my opinion, it’s beyond perfect 💜
What’s in a face?
Pokey's muzzle appears to protrude a little more than it should, but looking at her nose from above makes my whole heart smile. If I couldn't see it, I'm pretty sure my life would be seriously lacking.
Companion Dogs
The Boston Terrier is a friendly and lively dog. The breed has an excellent disposition and a high degree of intelligence, which makes the Boston Terrier an incomparable companion.
Pokey is most definitely a perfect companion dog. But.. she could definitely learn to cuddle her mamma a bit more!!!
Missing from the breed standard!!
The most important qualities of a boston terrier are missing from the breed standard!!!
Omissions from breed standard:
The breed standard also seems to omit several very important Boston Terrier traits, including, but not limited to:
RBF
Zoomies,
Judgy wudgy face
Googley eyes
Side eye
Goobery expressions
All of which Pokey is a master!
If you ask me, these traits are what really make boston terriers special. NOT perfect markings, face shape, muzzle length etc. Boston Terriers are special because of their amazing personalities, and that’s what I love most about them!

There is no imperfect boston terrier
So in summary, I think Pokey is quite a perfect Boston Terrier indeed, regardless of the “breed standard”.
