This is the first picture I ever saw of Pokey. She was part of a litter of three, and her siblings were called Piper (girl) and Pepper (boy). They were adorable, but this little Pokey, with her side eye grump captured my heart at first glance! And the name POKEY! Omg.. I was like umm.. she HAS to be mine!
And while I LOVED her name, I was planning on changing it to something that began with “A” since my name begins with A. I was also a little concerned that people would think the name Pokey was too silly, and thought I would feel self conscious telling people that my dog’s name was “Pokey”.
So I was toying with names like Amy or Annabel, but figured I would wait to meet Pokey before deciding on a name. And then I met her. And she was a Pokey. She could never have been anything else.
A rose with another name may still smell as sweet, but a Pokey with another name wouldn’t be as gooby!
What does “Pokey” mean? While I can’t be certain - I wrote about what I think the origination of the name is here.
